Perde-uithouritte is nie ’n nuwe gesig in Namibië nie, maar dis wel iets nuuts vir Swakopmund. In Augustus vanjaar het ruiters van regoor die wêreld kom meeding in die eerste Swakopmund-uithourit, wat vinnig ’n gesogte toets vir fokus, kophou en planmaak geword het.

Perde-uithourit Ligging Swakopmund, Namibië Dis volmaan oor die Namib, springgety, en met die uitsonderlike verskynsel dat die maan ekstra na aan die aarde is, is die see onstuimiger as gewoonlik. In die Namib-rivierbedding net buite Swakopmund is alles tjoepstil, maar toe die rigtingaanwysers deur die dynserigheid vorm aanneem, begin die perde se ore draai. Die Namibwoestyn, wat ook die oudste woestyn ter wêreld is, is nie net ’n reusetoerismeaantreklikheid nie, maar ook die perfekte arena om ruiters en hul perde tot die uiterste te beproef. Perdeuithouritte in die woestyn verg ’n gevorderde vlak van mededinging. Dink aan die Marokko- koninklike toer en Sjeik Zayed- internasionale uithourit in Egipte, en die Mongoolse Derby, die wêreld se langste en taaiste uithourit (wat die Suid-Afrikaner Willemien Jooste twee jaar gelede gewen het).
