During my 16 years with LRO, I’ve seen scores of beautifully restored Land Rovers, but this particular machine is one of my favourites. I love all Series Land Rover tow trucks, but what makes this one really special is that Devon 4x4, well-known for creating competition and (more recently) expedition vehicles, as well as its D44 off-road gear, was recently asked to take on its first ground-up restoration. To add to the pressure, the 109’s owner, George Bamford (who also owns the Bamford X featured in our April 2017 issue), needed it to be ready for a big club event, just 11 weeks and two days away.
