FAMILY TREASURES

Family albums sometimes turn up some photographs that are great for reasons other than family ones. This one is a case in point. It was sent to me by Nigel Spencer after I’d helped him identify the ex-RAF Series III 88 that he uses with the Leicester and Rutland 4x4 Response team. It shows Nigel’s late father-in-law during his time with the RAF Police in Aden, on the Arabian peninsula, in the 1950s. The Land Rover is an 86-inch Series I, which was one of a batch of 150 1955 models delivered to the RAF under military contract 6/Veh/16499. Fabulous stuff, not least because you don’t often get a chance to see the markings as they were in service.…
