I’ve rediscovered these lovely pictures that apparently came from the archives of E Allman & Co Ltd of Chichester in West Sussex, who made field sprayers for Land Rovers for years. They show the Allman Plantector – the name was retained into the 1960s and possibly longer – mounted on a very early 80-inch. One photo [right] shows the booms raised for transport, and the other shows them actually spraying while the vehicle is stationary. My sales brochures for later models say that the sprayer pump was driven from the Land Rover’s centre power take-off. There’s no numberplate visible on this vehicle, but it’s clearly a very early model with silver-painted chassis (the sprung seat backs suggest it’s unlikely to be a pre-production example). Does anyone recognise it or have more information…
