I first got into Land Rovers in 1993 when my mate Chris bought a 109. Towards the end of that summer he asked if he could borrow my caravan. ‘There’s an Essex Land Rover Club weekend event that we want to go on,’ he said. ‘Why don’t you come too?’ So I did. At the event, he drove the 109 and I navigated for the first time. It was such fun, I decided there and then that I wanted a Land Rover. These were the days when you’d buy the local paper as soon as it came out on a Thursday lunchtime, so you could get to the classifieds right away.
