There’s any amount of flashy and expensive equipment on sale for the dedicated Land Rover adventurer – but ask yourself if you really need it

The world of Land Rovers in general, and overland travel in particular, is becoming particularly equipment-focused. What roof tent have you got? What boots do you wear? What drawer system do you use? What…? You mean you haven’t got one? And so on. This, of course, is quickly followed by a Harry Enfield-style: ‘Now, I do not believe you wanted to buy one of those…’ Folk often forget that Land Rovers – all Land Rovers – are, by nature, expedition-ready straight out of the box. You don’t need to buy expensive expedition-style camping gear. You don’t need bespoke accessories such as roof tents, overland roof racks, jerry-can holders, winches, vole toasters and so on.
