According to scientists, the unique species of crab uses the hair to disguise and protect itself from potential predators. The family who found the crustacean off the coast of Western Australia transported it to their local museum for official identification. The specific crab type is called a Lamarckdromia beagle, belongs to the Dromiidae family and is more commonly known as sponge crabs. Dr. Andrew Hosie, a curator at the Western Australian Museum explained, “The sponge or ascidian just keeps growing and will mould to the shape of the crab’s back… There are not a lot of active predators that would be interested in munching…
