A PANOPLY OF PIZZA
There have been countless interpretations of pizza in my life. The drunken slices, the countless squares of Midwestern tavern pizza. Breakfast pizza scavenged from boxes left on counters overnight. Detroit style, St. Louis style, Chicago deep dish. Something my late Mom contemptuously called “California pizza,” even though it was just a pie with brie and squash. I’ve been forced into BBQ chicken pizza because I was the last one in the conference room. I’ve had the trifecta of vegan pizza, gluten-free pizza and gluten-free vegan pizza.
I’ve ingested chain pizza whose main selling points are low price and quick delivery. Airport slices that were somehow bland but also unforgettable, possibly because they were so expensive. There’s been all kinds of frozen pizza of varying quality, plus…
