Despite the challenges of COVID-19 and an exceptionally weak snowpack, the 2021 Oh Be Joyful Race went off with great success on the first Saturday of June this year in Crested Butte. This year the OBJ Race found a new and permanent home with High Country Conservation Advocates (HCCA) as the permit holder. HCCA has worked for over fifty years to protect the lands and waters that make Crested Butte special and is currently working on getting OBJ listed as eligible for Wild and Scenic designation during the current forest plan revision. The OBJ Race raises funds for HCCA and will help them present their case to the Forest Service for additional protections for the creek.
