Paddlers from across the globe travel to California (USA) every spring to experience the granite wonderlands of the Sierra mountains. A seemingly endless list of classic river trips lined with rapids and waterfalls that appear to be sculpted by dreams of a whitewater paradise awaits. Fewer travelers venture north of the Sierras, but those who do are rewarded with thousands of miles of quality whitewater opportunities, some weaving through forests containing towering redwoods and others through lush temperate rainforests. Across the state, California has an array of whitewater rivers for every season that rivals any region on earth, and that logically extends to the state also having thousands of miles of rivers worthy of protection.
