THE HAMMER AND THE NAIL: THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN KAYAKING AND TRAVEL Kayaking and travel share a special relationship. It is rare to meet a kayaker who does not enjoy travel, whether locally, nationally, or internationally. The relationship between the two, one could argue, is that of dependency. Kayaking is dependent on travel in a way many sports are not. For this reason, our community tilts towards nomadic tendencies. At age 17, Abby Holcombe has traveled more than most people do their entire lives. She is the perfect example of a life shaped by kayaking and travel, having spent years with her family following the flow, going from one whitewater location to another. I caught up with Abby while she was on the Colorado Freestyle Tour during the summer of 2021.…
