The French Alps are well known for their whitewater; rivers like the Guil, Ubaye, and Durance, are renowned worldwide for their rapids and scenery. Kayakers from all over Europe visit every spring to catch the snowmelt. This spring, French paddlers Mylo Nicholas and Raphael Urscheler decided they wanted to find something new to do. So, with the help of Google Earth, they ventured north into the Maurienne Valley. Though this valley is extremely industrial and touristic, the rivers are mostly dammed and covered in concrete; it is much less explored by the river community.
