The Rhône is one of the largest river systems in Europe, starting in the Swiss Alps and finishing in the Mediterranean Sea. Its numerous dams collect tons and tons of sediment every year, which block the river bed and obstruct the river's normal flow. Every four years, the dams are fully opened to clear the sediment; this event is called the "Purge du Rhône." This means that the world class surf spots of the Rhône are runnable all day for 12 days! In May 2021, local paddlers Tom Dollé, Arthur Bernot, Arthur Paulus, and many others made the most of these epic flows on the world-renowned wave Hawaii-Sur-Rhône in Lyon, France.…
