The Animas River Days event was stop number two of the infamous Colorado Tour. Not only was it a playful weekend with surf competitions, boater cross, slalom, and more, but it was also the host event for the 2021 USA Freestyle Kayak National Championships. It was blistering hot the days leading into the event, and all the athletes rushed to escape the heat in the refreshing Animas River. Each day, the weather got warmer, and the river rose higher and higher. The higher flows made the competition wave bigger, steeper, and easier to throw higher scoring tricks.While the wave was getting better by the minute, it was still challenging and flushy on the day of the competition, so the event organizers opted for a round-robin format.
