This June, I was in Glenwood Springs preparing for US Team Trials at the Glenwood wave. One particular morning I was paddling with Elaine Campbell. Despite being late May, it was a cold, dry Colorado morning and the water was pretty chilly too. Glenwood Springs is over a mile high and coming from sea level you can definitely feel the altitude. This particular day, both Elaine and I had adjusted to the altitude – she had come from Buena Vista, Colorado at nearly 9,000 feet and I had already been in Glenwood Springs a few days. Elaine was still really having trouble catching her breadth and at one point she said,“I have to get out of the water, I can’t breath!” As it turns out, Elaine is an asthmatic and…
