A LEGACY OF FREE FLOWING RIVERS: HOW DO WE REALIZE ITS PROMISE?

It’s time we recognize that we’re incredibly fortunate river enthusiasts in the United States. Our forefathers in the river-running community left us with an incredible one-of-kind river preservation system, and it’s our duty to uphold that legacy. The Wild and Scenic Rivers Act is a tool that allows us to take our last, best, free-flowing rivers and officially recognize their worth by granting lasting protections for their outstanding values so we can continue to enjoy them for years to come. However, this tool, which has been around for 50 years, is unbelievably under-utilized. Why? Myriad reasons, not the least of which is that a Wild and Scenic Designation requires an act of Congress.
