It was a wet and warm winter in New Zealand, absolutely prime for some classic Kaimai creeking treats in the Bay of Plenty. After ticking off some of the usual suspects, the crew was keen to get into some less-run goods, and the Rataroa Creek (a northern tributary of the legendary Tuakopai Creek) had been on the radar for a while. Being harder and less "clean" than the Tuakopai, it had only seen a couple of full descents in the last 10+ years.
