NEW WAVE Costa Rica's combination of mountains colliding with tropical storms from the Pacific and the Caribbean oceans creates a biodiversity of flora and fauna, but also a biodiversity of quality whitewater that attracts all types of kayakers come rainy season. Costa Rica has been firmly on the radar of international kayakers for decades, from Eric Jackson and European slalom stars training on the now dammed río Reventazón to the Epicocity Crew's first Ds on jungle stouts to Pat Keller's infamous tuck-and-huck shot—featured in Sports Illustrated—on La Paz.
