The province of Saskatchewan, Canada, is often perceived as a flat, featureless expanse of grassland separating the lakes and rivers of Ontario to the east and the mountains of Alberta and British Columbia to the west. However, contrary to common belief, there is worldclass whitewater to be paddled in the province's northern reaches for those willing to dedicate time and effort to seek it out. On August 2nd, 2024, five whitewater kayakers set out to paddle the Porcupine River. They drove for over twenty-four hours to where the road ends in the town of Stony Rapids, Saskatchewan.
