DESCENTS In the heart of the scenic town of Bad Gastein, nestled in the Austrian Alps, stands one of Europe's most remarkable natural features: The towering Bad Gastein Waterfall. A 300-meter-long sequence of slides and drops culminates in a thirty-four-meter (112 ft) waterfall. Matthias Weger had been eyeing this majestic waterfall for years. After several scouting missions at different flows, he concluded he would be the first to fire it up. On August 19th, 2024, Matthias seized the opportunity to make this dream come true. The plan was to rappel from a rappelling station (which Matthias had set up the day before) into the eddy above the lip, whilst already in his kayak. Mario Leitner helped him hit the right spot.
