PETITION TO SAVE THE AUSTARI-JÖKULSÁ, ICELAND

Iceland is a place where kayakers search for waterfalls through dramatic landscapes and relax in geothermal pools. Many traveling kayakers find their way to the Northwest to stay at Vi king Rafting and to paddle the world-famous Austari-Jökulsá. Flowing freely from the Hofsjökull glacier, a 17 km Whitewater section known as the “Beast from the East" is home to world-class rafting, the Midnight Sun Festival, and the rapid “Green Room.” The supreme national parliament of Iceland wants both the 'Austari-Jökulsá' and 'VestariJökulsá' to be developed for hydropower. Plans and research into the area's development already exist, and the rivers both sit on a waiting list.
