Bullerfest: a Kiwi classic. This Whitewater kayak festival, named for the Buller River, which runs through the sleepy town of Murchison on New Zealand's South Island, is part family reunion, part competition, and part party. This year, the Awanui film awards kicked off the festival and set the tone for the coming days. A collection of films celebrating the adventures had in New Zealand and beyond was presented at the small theatre. The films showcased skill over mind and body and expressed the important relationship between people and the flow of nature.
