JOEL KOWALSKI TALKS ABOUT A PROGRAM HE HAS BEEN WORKING ON SINCE LAST YEAR TO PROVIDE AN ANNUAL FULL SCHOLARSHIP TO THE KEENERS PROGRAM ON THE OTTAWA RIVER FOR A SOUTH AMERICAN PADDLER, IN HONOR OF JUANITO DE UGARTE.

KS: Joel, you’ve had a brutal couple of years of losing friends and family. First your roommate, colleague and good friend Juanito, and then just a month ago your brother Marc in Japan. Our hearts go out to you and your family. How do you cope with these staggering losses? JK: Thanks, the grieving process is brutal. And I know I’m not alone in the paddling community. There have been way too many amazing people taken from us over the last few years.
