In this column, Priscilla recalls a memorable trip where she decided to push herself one last time before getting hip surgery and not being able to paddle again for months.

I had scheduled my hip surgery and was looking forward to finally starting the recovery process. Thinking about the pending procedure and having been told by my surgeon that I could not do anything to make it worse, I felt a desire to push myself one more time. Jacob had been scanning topography and weather forecasts and mentioned there was a fork of a fork of a creek in the Trask drainage nestled in a network of logging roads with gates that may or may not be open. It would likely be a hike on logging roads and clearcuts, with a lot of portaging due to logs, but the whitewater seemed manageable.
