When you first hear of the Canoandes Expedition, it sounds more fiction than fact. The exploits and accomplishments of six amateur expedition paddlers from Poland, which include first descents of rivers across Latin America at a time when their homeland was locked behind the Iron Curtain, defy logic and possibility. Driven in part by the desire for freedom, for those men, every river (and the path to get there) became a celebration of autonomy and the chance to see a world they had dreamed of seeing.
