And if you’ve spent time on the AW website, I can almost guarantee you’ve seen the name Thomas O’Keefe credited in the caption of countless photos of rivers, from the popular to the most obscure. As the longtime Pacific Northwest Stewardship Director for American Whitewater, Tom O’Keefe has probably had an impact on every river user in the U.S., and has truly made an extraordinary impact on the complicated issues at the heart of whitewater. From stopping the dewatering of one of the best runs in the Pacific Northwest to testifying in congress on behalf of paddlers, he’s someone every boater and river steward should look up to.
