Just outside of Washington, D.C, lies the jagged rock chasm that forms the different channels of Great Falls of the Potomac River. Standing amid the Potomac’s raging waters, the paths lining the river provide access to the hundreds of people who flock to the national park each year to recreate, from outdoor enthusiasts like kayakers, hikers, climbers, and bikers, to those who come to appreciate the awe-inspiring sight. In March, American Whitewater’s Pacific Northwest Stewardship Director, Thomas O’Keefe, was invited to testify before the United States Congress, a mere 20-miles away from the falls thundering roar, on the topic of outdoor recreation.
