Paddling challenging whitewater requires fitness, specific skill sets, an aptitude for mental strength and rational reasoning. When there is dissonance between your perceived physical and mental abilities and what you actually are capable of doing on the water it can have dire consequences. WHAT IF? Last year, I had reached a point where I was confident about my skills and was finally looking at what runs to do without necessarily focusing on the difficulty of the run, but more on the places I wanted to see in my boat.
