As winter sets in across the northern hemisphere, the usual migration to warmer destinations begins. From November to mid-February, many kayakers from around the world trade icy rivers for the warm sun and stout whitewater of Tlapacoyan, Veracruz. With classic sections like Big Banana, Seven Sisters, Roadside, Lower and Upper Jalacingo on the doorstep, plus numerous waterfalls, a trip to Mexico offers the perfect setup to maximize time on the water. Although somewhat overlooked in recent years, it remains a popular destination for whitewater, attracting renowned kayakers like Heidi Walsh, Tyler Bradt, Kaelin Friedenson, and Tom Dolle this winter.
