Bartosz Czauderna recently participated in a meeting organized by the Zambian River Authority regarding Batoka Gorge Dam. Unfortunately, the project is planned to go ahead. However, paddlers have indirectly learned that they estimate it will take seven to eight more years before the reservoir is filled. No funds were officially confirmed during the meeting. More potential good news: the proposed dam height has changed from 182 m to 175 m, meaning the water is predicted to back up until rapid Number 9, rather than Number 5. That is still questionably sufficient to keep local tourism alive to the level that it is now. There is another small shine of hope.
