Until the most recent dam in late 2018, the White Nile in Uganda was unquestionably the premiere winter freestyle destination in the world. After many of the best features were flooded, freestyle paddlers were left searching for something new. Rumors of various rivers with possible potential floated around for the next few years while people scoured Google Earth or stumbled across chance Instagram photos of potential waves. Following an exceptionally good STAKEOUT in the spring of 2022, Luke Pomeroy and David Silk were among those searching. After hearing about a possible river in northern Brazil, they found information on the Rio Tapajós and decided it had enough potential to make the trip.
