Local paddler Patrick Lynch had identified an unrun stretch of whitewater on the Sillahertane River in County Kerry. He had scouted several times over the last number of years. Approximately 50 mm of rain over a short spell is needed to bring this gem up, and unfortunately, it only runs for three to four hours after the rainfall. Numerous attempts were made to run it, but low flows sabotaged every effort. On the 26th of November, the stars aligned for Patrick Lynch, David Glasswell, Diarmuid McCarthy, Ruairi Kay, Shane Murphy, and Anaïs O’Donovan. The team met at Top of Coom, Ireland’s highest pub.
