An Ode to the Nile

For nearly two centuries the Nile River has lured explorers and adventures into heart of Africa to discover its secrets and brave its wild waters. More recently, the magic and power of the White Nile have earned it reputation as one of the preeminent big water rivers in the world . The Nile has nurtured and connected thousand of kayakers who have fallen in love with its wildlife, culture , shockingly large yet friendly features, and what many consider the most magnificent surf waves on earth . Jessie Stone pays homage to the past twenty years on the Nile and reminds us that while one era may be over , the Nile’s last chapter is far from written.

“Catch this eddy!” EJ said, waving me in above what appeared to be a sizeable horizon line. “Just follow Alex, he will show us the lines.” It was January 2003, our first day paddling the Nile. I was excited and nervous as we made our way downstream to meet up with Nile River Explorer’s raft trip and Alex Muzungu, the eternal raft guide and safety kayaker from NRE who was leading us down. The river split into a maze of channels, separated by rocky outcrops of forest-clad islands, giving no immediate indication of where to go.
