Americans have built a lot of dams. While those dams have served us well in some ways, they have also had an undeniable impact on fish, people and river health. In the decades following the dam building craze, we have gained an understanding of the long-term costs of hydro and have begun to look at other options. Despite this, we are currently at a crossroads, once again asking, “Should we build more dams?” Similar to the closing-time chant of “One more beer!” heard in bars around the country, our flagging hydropower industry is chanting “One more dam!” Well, go home America, it is late, and you are drunk.
