ON THE ORIGINS OF THE WILD AND SCENIC RIVERS ACT

Kayak Session is proud to collaborate with American Whitewater, a non-profit river conservation organization. Our mission is to show kayaking at its best with amazing pictures of paddling on beautiful rivers. Without the hard work and dedication of AW, we would have a difficult time portraying these incredible rivers, and it would probably become even more difficult in the years to come. We would like to acknowledge this work and AW has agreed to keep us updated on some of the projects they are involved in.

For more information on these and other issues that American Whitewater is working on, go to www.americanwhitewater.org In recent years, it has been widely reported that Missoula-based wildlife biologists John and Frank Craighead “came up with the idea for the Wild & Scenic Rivers Act.” However, this oversimplification of the origins of the United States’ strongest river protection bill does a disservice to the countless others who played essential roles in not only forming the idea for a federal law designed to protect our last best wild rivers but also in helping usher it through the gridlock of Congress and on to President Lyndon Johnson's desk for the signature necessary to enshrine it as the law of the land.
