High in the Andes of Southwestern Colombia, the Caqueta River begins as a trickling waterfall at nearly 13,000 feet in elevation. As it descends towards the Amazonian plain the Caqueta grows quickly, becoming one of the highest-volume rivers in the country. The river passes through multiple Class V canyons and some of the deepest, most biodiverse jungle on Earth. In 2017, Tyler Bradt and Jules Domine paddled the Caqueta at impressively high water from Santa Rosa, through the last two major canyons, then across a thousand kilometers of flatwater to reach their goal: Araracuara, a massive canyon deep in the Amazonian plain.
