Iceland saw a late spring dump of snow, which meant the snowpack could still be seen in the mountains until July! Many of Iceland's iconic waterfall runs depend on snow melt, which can be unpredictable with aligning weather systems. Fortunately, in May 2024, a long spell of south wind brought warm air over the island from the continent, making the rivers come alive. Many of the lesser-known side creeks had healthy flows for extended periods. One of these runs is the Mælifell River, located in Skagafjörður in Northwest Iceland, and only ten minutes away from the Viking Rafting base.
