French kayakers Paul Aubertin and Mylo Nicholas from Eggstream Kayak went on a mission in March 2024 to scout and first descend the Zakalj Waterfall in Rijeka, Croatia, on the Rjecina River. The Rjecina only runs a few times a year and is heavily dam-controlled, so it's very difficult to have the correct flow to run the waterfall, which is only three km from the sea. The waterfall is special as it goes through a siphon hole before dropping into a huge pool. When Mylo and Paul first arrived in Rijeka it rained heavily; on the first scout, there was too much water to run the drop.
