The Bigfork Whitewater Festival in Montana celebrated its 49th Annual event this year, bringing together participants from across the interior northwest to compete on the challenging “Wild Mile” section of the Swan River. Despite concerns about low water levels, a wet and cold May provided adequate flows, allowing for a technical yet manageable race course. The festival, known for its grassroots spirit, involves camping at the take-out and a short shuttle back to the starting point, fostering a close-knit community atmosphere. Activities kicked off on Friday with the Boater X event, which was won by Scott Doherty despite a significant piton at the Big Drop.
