MULTI-DAY WHITEWATER THING VACATIONS: No such thing!

When is a vacation not a vacation? When you are on a multi-day fishing trip in the wilderness of Ontario’s Algonquin Park, hunting for Musky, argues James McBeath. The daily trials that James and the Heliconia video crew face that are not unlike a day at the office. Still, despite the bugs and hard work, as even McBeath admits, a multi-day fishing trip is pretty close to the best experience you can ever have in life.

All work mornings start and end the same way: Coffee, catchup, prioritizing urgent tasks in your inbox, lunch breaks (repeat coffee scenario with sandwiches), work stress, dealing with bosses, dealing with unforeseen crap, putting it all into motion, and the commute home. Oh. I forgot pants again, my BAD. I should have started with “putting on pants!” In my world, all workdays melt into the next. In the outdoor sporting industry, we are all heads down and working hard these days, so when my friend Ken calls, and asks, "Hey bud, how ‘bout a five-day run down the Lower Pet with Brendo and me?” my answer is a quick “Absolutely!”. My mind immediately went to the word “vacation.” I write this opening paragraph with the full power of hindsight’s 20/20…
