Hamburg PADDLEBOARDING THE RIVERS, LAKES, AND CANALS OF GERMANY'S SUP CITY

Hamburg draws millions of visitors a year who rave about the modern metropolis and its rich cultural history. Still, what many don’t know is that Germany’s second-biggest city is surrounded by water, with more bridges and canals than Venice. Adventurer and photographer Björn Nehrhoff von Holderberg grabbed his SUP and set out to investigate the city’s rivers, lakes, and canals to find the best routes and offer insight on the rich SUP potential Hamburg has to offer.

90 million visitors per year can't be wrong; Hamburg is one of the top destinations in Germany. The city’s visitors come for different reasons. Many love the cosmopolitan harbor, where you can get a glimpse of the sea-faring life watching cruise ships, container freighters, tall ships and sailboats, right from the heart of the city. Others come to experience the “Reeperbahn” quarter, the red-light district where the Beatles started their career. Music abounds in the Hanseatic city. There are hip hop artists and smoky jazz clubs, musicals, festivals, and concerts of all kinds- from the plentiful array of pubs, bars, restaurants, and taverns in the Reeperbahn “party mile” to the famous opera house Elbphilharmonie, which locals call “Elfi.” Museums showcase the city’s art and cultural heritage, though astonishingly, it is…
