MIKE KRUTYANSKY

32-year-old Mike Krutyansky is the definition of “part of the global kayaking family.” Russian by birth, with an Israeli passport and a European home on wheels, Mike has spent the last five years traveling and kayaking everywhere and anywhere you can think of, and some places you probably can’t. But Mike has a bigger agenda than looking to add runs to his personal logbook. He has taken his love of travel and kayaking to the digital sphere with the creation of the whitewater.guide app. We caught up with Mike to find out more about the app and what inspires his love of rivers.

KS: While you describe yourself as a member of the global kayaking family, where are you from? How and where did you first start kayaking? MK: I was born in Moscow, Russia. There is no place to paddle near Moscow, so I was introduced to kayaking in the North of Russia, by the border with Finland and Ukraine. My parents used to train there before going on multiple-week long paddling adventures in Asia. They were catarafters, but they would also paddle easier rivers in kayaks and duo-kayaks. My parents joined an outdoor club when they were in university, and they would spend their time in Moscow working, training, studying, and teaching whitewater with friends.
