DANCING WITH THE DARK It was about 4pm by the time we paddled past the major falls on Boulder Creek, a fickle stream in the heart Oregon’s Coast Range. It was my first time on a run this remote, and on a run of this difficulty. We were one mile into the five-mile run. There were only two hours of daylight left, and hiking out was not an option. Even if we made it to the complex network of logging roads, we were still 10 miles from our car, with rain forecasted that night.
