The term PTSD is thrown around a lot, but its meaning is often misunderstood. After the shocking death of a friend of mine, I decided to look into Post Traumatic Stress Disorder more closely. WHAT IS PTSD? Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a psychological condition that affects people after they have experienced a traumatic event. Trauma can be almost anything that you feel is shocking or disturbing to you. The most commonly cited examples are events that might have or did cause you bodily or psychological harm or cause harm or death to a loved one. Specific examples include combat, natural disasters, motor vehicle accidents, and the unexpected death of a loved one. However, many other things can cause PTSD, such as the diagnosis of an illness.
