GLAGLA RACE BRAVING THE COLD IN THE FRENCH ALPS

While SUP usually conjures images of sun, sand, and bikinis, France’s GlaGla Race proves you don’t have to put your board away for winter. This year more than 300 paddlers braved below freezing temperatures in the French Alps to stand at the start line for what is quickly becoming one of the most popular winter SUP races in the world.

The story of the GlaGla Race began in 2013 with Benoit Mouren. At the time, Mouren had the idea of organizing a series of stand up paddle races across the Alps. His vision was to mix competition and new challenges with opportunities to share and promote SUP with others.“Beyond the competition aspect, the idea was to make the participants discover places,” says Benoit of his initial motivation. Mouren turned his idea into reality with the creation of the Alpine Lakes Tour. Since its birth, the Alpine Lakes Tour team has organized 45 tours.
