The LDub Race FOUR YEARS OF RACING THE LITTLE WHITE SALMON

On May 31, 2014 the Little White Salmon Race was held for the fourth year in a row, with racers representing eight different countries and competing in two different events, the Downriver Race and the Slalom at Spirit. Over the years, the race has grown from a grassroots celebration of the river among a small group of friends to one of the premier class V races in the world. With extreme racing becoming the new face of competitive kayaking, the Little White Race will undoubtedly continue to grow and adapt. Kayak Session takes a look at the race and a few snapshots from the past four years.

The River The Little White Salmon,a boulder-strewn river punctuated by ledges and waterfalls, tumbles out of the volcanic Cascade Mountain Range, adding its mass to the main artery of the Pacific watershed, the Columbia River. At standard levels, the LW (L-Dub) as locals refer to it, has easy access and manageable West Coast class V, which has caused the river to soar in popularity over the past few years. With every picture posted on FB, every GoPro edit of Spirit, the lore and mysticism of the LW is more and more dispersed to the masses. Once the river with only a core following of locals, the Little White has now exploded into an international destination for river runners.
