There is something in the air these days you can’t help but notice. What was old, is new again. If you have been around the sport as long as I have, you have paddled fiberglass boats, slalom boats, and the early plastic boats. You know, when manufacturers realized kayaks didn’t need to be four meters long and started to make really “short” playboats- like 11’6” short… From 1980-2010 kayaks changed, a lot. River running and creeking boats got shorter until 2000, when they began getting longer again, and have been bouncing back and forth ever since. Freestyle kayaks got progressively shorter until around 2010, when lengths stabilized. Currently, nearly every type of kayak has seen a resurgance in popularity.
