DANIEL EGGER

You may not recognize his name, but there is a good chance you have encountered Daniel Egger on a river somewhere around the world. In 2017 alone, the 28-year-old founding father of the Austrian crew the Vboyz traveled and kayaked in 19 countries, paddling everything from the flatwater of the Danube to first descents in Europe and the big water of the North Fork Payette and Indus. We caught up with Daniel to learn more about the man hidden behind the tattoos and to hear his perspective on making kayaking your life.

Kayak Session: You grew up in Schladming, a famous ski resort in Austria, with your house located a five-minute walk from the ski lift.That sounds like a childhood dream. Daniel Egger: That’s true, Schladming is one of the biggest ski resorts in Europe, and some prominent races take place there. We have around five months of good snow every year, so it was our playground growing up. I would go skiing alone with my friends as young as eight-years-old.We would make kickers and run small powder lines after school or in school sports lessons.
