POWER UP The stunt crew referred to Gordon Cormier (who plays Aang) as an ‘Energiser Bunny’, as he picked up the bending moves fast and brought Aang’s high energy with the stunts. Gordon’s secret? Jellybeans! SURPRISE EXERCISE The scene where Katara and Sokka discover Aang (and Appa) in the iceberg was filmed on the first day of shooting for Avatar: The Last Airbender! The director, Michael, suggested that Ian Ousley (who plays Sokka) should do push ups before the iceberg scene, so he seemed out of breath after escaping the icy rapids beforehand. Ian ended up doing roughly 150 push ups that day! STUDENT TO MASTER The cast did bending boot camp one month before filming.
