When interior designer Kristie Cairns and her husband Damian came across a two-hectare block near Bendigo in Victoria, it was untouched bushland that had only just been subdivided.
Although they weren’t actively looking for a new home, the couple were enchanted by the block and put in an offer. “After enquiring, we were told someone had already made an offer and that we’d have to counter if we were interested,” says Kristie, who heads up Simplism Interiors. “We thought the agent was bluffing, so we made the offer and ended up buying it! A week later, we had our house on the market and sold within six weeks.”
They initially worked with Lloyd Sage Design Studio, building designers who drew up plans for an urban-style barn, and then engaged builder Paul Crawford…
